 ASTA Certificate Advancement Program (ASTACAP)

The American String Teachers Association Certificate Advancement Program (ASTACAP) offers a comprehensive curriculum and a program of examinations designed to serve string teachers and their students in the United States and abroad.

ASTA establishes defined national goals for string students at all levels and provides:

• An extensive, flexible curriculum of scales, etudes, and repertoire in eleven levels
• Instrument-specific guidelines and requirements at each level
• A program of non-competitive examinations, offered in live (site) and online formats

Students participating in the exam program are evaluated on technical and musical achievement by a highly qualified ASTACAP string specialist. Teachers and students receive a detailed evaluation of the exam performance, including scores and written comments. Certificates are awarded for successful completion of each level.
